Aberdeen man killed during WWII to be buried next week

WASHINGTON (KSFY) - The remains of an Aberdeen man killed during World War II are being returned to his family for burial with full military honors.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced Friday that Marine Corps Pvt. Archie W. Newell will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington D.C. on December 8.

Newell was identified on June 12, 2017, more than 74 years after he was killed on the first day of battle in the Tarawa Atoll on November 20, 1943.
