SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Animal Control says it has caught the coyote believed to have taken a small dog from outside a home in northwest Sioux Falls last month.
Supervisor Julie DeJong tells KSFY News they believe the large coyote fits the description of the one that took the dog and attempted to take two others in a neighborhood on Galaxy Lane.
Animal Control first removed a couple of smaller coyotes after the incident but still received complaints. DeJong said they caught the large one on Monday and have not received any complaints since then.
The South Dakota Games, Fish and Parks Department assisted in trapping the coyotes. DeJong said they will be humanely euthanized.
She encourages pet owners to continue to scare wild animals away from their homes. Doing nothing lets the animals think it is okay for them to be there, she said.
