SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Animal Control officers have removed 60 deer from Sioux Falls city limits after a months-long operation.
It began Dec. 26 and ended Feb. 28. Officers focused on the southeastern, western and northeastern portions of the city.
Supervisor Julie DeJong said in past years they removed 50 deer, but an increase in deer-vehicle accidents prompted officers to take out more.
DeJong said 16 deer were removed from just one homeowner's backyard.
All of the meat harvested will be donated to local food banks by Sportsmen Against Hunger.
