Minnehaha County Capt. Josh Phillips released new details in the investigation Monday morning.

He said a passerby found what is believed to be a Bull Terrier around 6 a.m. Thursday morning in the 7400 block of Madison Street near La Mesa Drive on the city-county border.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office released photos of the dog on Friday, asking for the public's help finding its owners.

"To us it seems very obvious that somebody wanted us to find the dog," Phillips said Monday. "Concerning that someone would do that to a dog."

Authorities still need the public's help. Anyone with information on the dog or its owners is asked to call the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office at 367-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 367-7007.
