Body found in storage unit fire in Milford, Iowa

MILFORD, IOWA (KSFY) - Officials say a man's body was found inside a storage unit that was on fire in Milford, Iowa Tuesday night.

Milford Community Fire Chief Jim Carpenter said the department was called near 26th Street and Q Avenue on the north side of town around 8 p.m.

Upon arrival, one unit was "heavily involved" and had begun spreading to another. Crews had to force their way into the unit and several others.

Carpenter said the man's body was found as the fire was being extinguished. He was taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

More information on the man is expected at a later date.

Crews were on scene until about 1 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
