Man arrested for kidnapping his ex-girl held on $500K cash bond

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and putting her in the trunk of his car made his initial appearance in court Wednesday.
60-year-old Jon Bryant Senior could face a mandatory life sentence in prison if convicted on kidnapping and assault charges.
The judge set Bryant Senior's cash bond at 500,000 dollars.
He is facing several charges including kidnapping, aggravated assault, and stalking.
According to court documents, the man hid in his ex-girlfriend’s garage Tuesday and waited for her.
He then assaulted her and forced the victim into the trunk of her car.
The victim called police from inside the trunk.
When Bryant Senior noticed what she was doing he pulled over and tried to stop her.
Police were able to track the defendant as he took the victim to an abandoned barn near Garretson where they arrested him.
Bryant Senior did this because he was upset the victim had a new boyfriend.
According to a background check on the accused kidnapper, this isn't the first violent offense on his record.
He is a convicted felon.
The defendant faced charges for simple assault in a domestic dispute in 2006 and later that year he was charged for violating a protection order.
He was also charged with simple assault back in 2001.
Bryant Senior has also has drug offences on his record.
Back in 1992 he was charged with possessing more than 10 pounds of marijuana.
