Brookings Festival of Lights Parade creates family atmosphere with events leading up to parade

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Festival of Lights Parade in Brookings will start at 7:00 PM Thursday, but there are plenty of events leading up to the parade that people can be a part of. The festival of tress will be on display at the Brookings Arts Council from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Then, historic trolley rides will start to take off from the Brookings Arts Council at 5:00 PM. They run until 7:00 PM.

Families can decorate cookies at the Children's Museum of South Dakota from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Kids will also be able to have free play in the museum during that time. After the children have had their sugar fix, they can head to Main Street to write a letter to Santa Claus. That will be going on at Hitch Studio in Downtown Brookings from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

The parade starts at 7:00 PM and will make its way down Main Street between 6th and 3rd Streets. This year's theme for the floats is Camp Candy Cane. People are encouraged to decorate their float with a campfire theme in mind whether that's singing by the bonfire or holiday themed cabin games. It's summertime activities in the winter.
