BROOKINGS, S.D. - Members of the Brookings High School Orchestra were able to record multiple songs from Disney soundtracks at Disneyland Performing Arts.
The orchestra traveled to Los Angeles, CA on June 6th. Members were able to perform and record tracks for movies like Up, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Peter Pan.
A conductor named Kurt Curtis directed the orchestra for the learning experience. Curtis has recorded on Crystal Records and Summit Records. He can be heard in movies like Hidalgo and Glory.
The high school students recorded the pieces of music and afterwards were able to watch the corresponding movie scenes with their recordings.
“When we first heard our recording put with the clip it gave me chills,” Abigayle Davis said, who is a freshman cellist. “I liked the way our conductor worked us through the tough spots when we were practicing. He was very encouraging.”
A senior violinist said it was a neat experience seeing how movies are put together.
“And it was fun to work with people in the music and movie industry and have them help us. It was really cool to work in an area with professional musicians and make connections," Hunter Winghart said.
