Burger King donates $6,447 to South Dakota Special Olympics

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Special Olympics of South Dakota received a big donation Thursday.

Burger King donated $6,447 to the organization at a special presentation.

The restaurant partnered with Special Olympics to raise money for athletes and events.

Customers at Burger Kings across the state had the option to donate $1 to the Special Olympics with each order.

"I set the goal about 4,000, being the first time doing this program, and it was amazing, everyone got behind it," Al Jones, Burger King director of operations for Sioux Falls, said. "We had shirts brought in our team wore for Special Olympics, they rallied behind it, and it was win-win."

The two top fundraising Burger Kings in the region were both in Sioux Falls, with both the Minnesota Avenue and Russell Street location and the Cliff Avenue and 57th Street location far exceeding their $200 goals.
