Update: Camper fire slows traffic on I-29

BROOKINGS, S.D. - A camper fire momentarily shut down southbound traffic on Interstate 29 just north of Brookings Friday.

South Dakota Highway Patrol said the driver of a Dodge Ram 2500, headed southbound on I-29, noticed his fifth-wheel camper was on fire around 12:30 p.m.

The driver was able to disconnect the camper from his pickup. Despite firefighters being able to extinguish the fire, the camper was destroyed.

Both southbound lanes were closed for a short period while crews responded to the fire. Both lanes are now open.

At this time, authorities haven't released the cause of the fire.
