Christmas at the Capitol makes USA Today list of top displays

PIERRE, S.D. (KSFY) - Christmas at the Capitol in Pierre has made it on a list of top displays across the country, one that includes the White House tree and the Rockefeller Center tree.

When describing the South Dakota display, National Christmas Tree Association Executive Director Tim O’Connor told USA Today, “It’s really spectacular. You can look down the halls and see tree after tree after tree. They’re all real, all beautiful and all unique.”

This year’s featured tree is a 25.5-foot Colorado Blue Spruce decorated by Special Olympics of South Dakota. It was donated by Kelsey and Aaron Trimble of Rapid City. After being trimmed, the tree stands 22 feet tall in the rotunda, according to Dakota Radio Group.

The Christmas at the Capitol display is open from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. daily through Dec. 25. More information is available at christmasatthecapitol.sd.gov or on the display’s Facebook page.
