City council approves beekeeping ordinance

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) -- The Sioux Falls city council approved a beekeeping ordinance for the city Tuesday night.

The ordinance requires residents to keep four bee colonies in their backyards as long as they have permission from nearby neighbors.

A six-foot tall barrier around colonies is also needed so bees can fly up and away from the area.

Bee colonies have to 25 feet away from nearby homes as well.
