Dell Rapids church gives back after flooding

The Daily Bread Food Pantry at Quarry Rock Church is hosting a food giveaway for Dell Rapids residents who have been affected by recent weather.

"All of the food and items that are behind us are for anybody that has been affected by the flooding or the torrential downpour that we had," said Rena Jensen, Director of the Daily Bread Food Pantry.

Starting just before one this afternoon, and helping people for roughly three hours, volunteers were on hand, and people needing help loaded up boxes with items they needed.

"The biggest thing is Dell Rapids is such a giving community and when something bad happens we rally around each other," Jensen said.

Stand up-- The church has a food pantry that is open the second and fourth Monday of every month, but this was a disaster relief giveaway that was created to help as many people as possible.

Linda Parr was on hand to help people who showed up.

"I'm just hoping that people will feel invited to come," said Linda Parr, Volunteer.

Merry Rogers was one of the people who made her way in.

"It makes it a little easier, less stressful because there's so many other things that we have to worry about with the water and the house," said Merry Rogers.

It's people like Rogers that make doing this work all worth it for Jensen, Parr, and the rest of the people who helped make it a success.
