SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Officials with the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center says it continues to rise in the rankings of the busiest concert venues in the world, according to rankings released by two industry publications.
Pollstar ranks the PREMIER Center 44th in the U.S. and 84th in the world among all arenas based on touring event ticket sales of 239,089, while Venues Today ranks the building 8th in the U.S. and 13th in the world among venues with capacities of between 10,000-15,000 (PREMIER Center capacity is 12,000). Venues Today’s ranking is based on gross ticket sales for touring events.
“2017 was another great year of tours at the PREMIER Center,” Chris Semrau, assistant general manager of the PREMIER Center, said in a press release. “The PREMIER Center increased touring event attendance by 69,000 over 2016 thanks to some very successful shows, including the nine sold-out concerts by Garth Brooks.”
Officials said Pollstar’s rankings show PREMIER Center attendance topped that of larger capacity arenas in the region including the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln (85th in the world), Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines (94th), and Wichita’s Intrust Bank Arena (103rd). Omaha’s CenturyLink Center ranked just ahead of Sioux Falls at No. 78.
Pollstar’s rankings listed the PREMIER Center at 88th in the world in 2016 with attendance of 170,843, and 100th in 2015, the venue’s first full year of operation.
