UPDATE: Downed power line removed, traffic on Minnesota Ave. reopened

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - UPDATE, 9:00 a.m.

Traffic on Minnesota Avenue has reopened after it was closed much of Tuesday morning due to a downed power line.

A truck reportedly hit the power line pole shortly before 8 a.m. Traffic on Minnesota Avenue near the I-229 interchange was closed off until shortly before 9:00 a.m.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said investigators believed a private snow removal truck hit the pole.

Crews will have to temporarily close the intersection at some point Tuesday to repair the pole.

A downed power line is slowing down traffic on one of Sioux Falls' busiest roads.

According to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, a power line went down on Minnesota Avenue near the Interstate 229 interchange. A snow plow reportedly hit the pole, knocking it down.

Police say the power line is still live. They are asking drivers to avoid the area.

Several other crashes have been reported around the Sioux Falls area Tuesday morning after a night of snow left many roads snowpacked or icy. Crews are still working to clear city streets.
