SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Some major road construction is starting soon in east Sioux Falls.
Starting Monday, the reconstruction of E. Arrowhead Parkway will begin between Veteran's Parkway and Gordon Drive.
Crews will be laying asphalt over the previously milled street to create a smoother ride for drivers.
Phase 1 of this $9.4 million project is anticipated to be fully open to traffic by late fall 2017.
More construction will take place next year, including a reconstruction project from Sycamore to Highline Avenue and a widening of Arrowhead Parkway to six lanes.
Various underground utility, streetlight and traffic signal upgrades will also be completed in the near future.
More than 18,000 vehicles travel on East Arrowhead Parkway each day. This is projected to increase to 42,000 by 2040.
