Endangered Snow Monkey born at the Great Plains Zoo

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - An endangered Snow Monkey has been born at the zoo in Sioux Falls.

The Great Plains Zoo announced Monday that the male monkey was born on May 16 to 9-year-old Isshi and 12-year-old Kisho.

The little monkey is the sixth to be born at the zoo, which is now home to 14 Snow Monkeys.

The zoo said that on average, the babies are about one pound at birth and are carried on their mother's belly for the first four weeks.

Guests at the Jungle Jubilee, the zoo's annual fundraising gala this August, can bid on a chance to name the baby during the live action.

Snow Monkeys are one of the 24 endangered species at the Great Plains Zoo.
