Family displaced because of garage fire in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - According to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, the fire broke out about 6:20 PM on Thursday at a home on South Hawthorne Avenue. Firefighters arrived to a single stall garage in flames.

The family living in the home though was able to exit before firefighters arrived. They are now being assisted by the American Red Cross because there was moderate smoke damage to the inside of the home. No one was injured during the fire though.

The fire was contained to the garage and breezeway area of the home. The cause of it is still under investigation.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with four fire trucks, three support vehicles and 18 personnel. They would like to remind residents to check their smoke detectors monthly and have an evacuation plan in place for your family.
