Final preparations being made in Pierre for inauguration

PIERRE, S.D. (DAKOTA RADIO GROUP) - Final preparations are being made for the inauguration of South Dakota Gov.-elect Kristi Noem and other state officials on Saturday in Pierre.

Inauguration Committee co-chair Matt Judson tells Dakota Radio Group the main activities in the State Capitol Building Rotunda start late Saturday morning.

Oath of Office ceremonies for legislators begin at 11 a.m. in their respective chambers at the State Capitol. The Oath of Office Ceremony for the governor-elect and other elected state officials begins at noon in the State Capitol Rotunda.

Judson said the committee works hard to give the public access to the newly elected officials.

"One of the things following the Oath of Office ceremony is we will have a receiving line on the first floor of the capitol with all of the officials where anybody can get in line and proceed through and personally get to shake the hand of our newly elected officials," he said. "Just another way that we want to get that access and visibility to just anyone in our state."

For those who plan to attend the Oath of Office ceremonies, Judson recommends arriving at the capitol early because of limited parking.

Inaugural activities also include the Capitol and Inaugural Balls, each including a Grand March.

Tickets are required for admittance to both of those events and cost $25 per person. Tickets are available at, by calling 1-800-962-2034 or by stopping at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce office.
