(KSFY) - South Dakota pride will be on full display during the high school football championships as the teams will wear helmet decals honoring the USS South Dakota.
The decals feature the crest of South Dakota's namesake vessel, which consists of Mount Rushmore, pheasant feathers and coyotes.
The USS South Dakota will be one of the newest and most innovative attack submarines in the Navy fleet.
When in service, it will carry a crew of 132 navy sailors.
The submarine will be commissioned in February.
The state championship games start Thursday in Vermillion and run through Saturday.
