Former Sioux Falls fire chief arrested on child pornography charges

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Authorities say former Sioux Falls fire chief Jim Sideras has been arrested on child porn charges about a week after a search warrant was issued on his home.

According to the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office, Sideras has been arrested on 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

Posession of child pornography is a Class 4 felony and is punishable up to 10 years in the penitentiary and a $20,000 fine for each count.

The charges are the result of a search warrant at Sideras' home on May 2.

His bond has been set at $10,000 cash or surety, and his court date has not been set.

A search warrant affidavit says a warrant was issued at the home of former Sioux Falls fire chief Jim Sideras last week as part of an ongoing investigation into possible possession of child pornography.

Sideras had recently announced plans to retire at the end of June after 34 years with SFFR, but the City fired him soon after authorities searched his home on May 2.

Division Chief Brad Goodroad is serving as the interim fire chief until the City can conclude the employment process for selecting the next chief, which is already underway.
