SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Early Saturday morning, at approximately 3 a.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in southeastern Sioux Falls.
Before fire crews arrived on scene at 4604 South Briarwood Avenue, they were updated by the Sioux Falls Police Department.
A passerby noticed the outside of the resident’s garage on fire and stopped and alerted the homeowners, and made sure they were able to evacuate the house.
On arrival, crews reported “smoke on approach”.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews found fire on the corner of the garage, that was spreading upwards towards the roof.
The fire was quickly extinguished and overhaul operations were started to confirm the fire had not spread to the interior of the garage or the home.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with eight personnel, two fire trucks and one support vehicle.

The home did not have a residential sprinkler system installed.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to have working smoke detectors and a practiced escape plan in the event of a fire emergency.
