Gas prices up compared to last Thanksgiving

(KSFY) - Gas prices are up year-to-year ahead of one of the nation's biggest traveling holidays.

According to AAA, the average price of gas nationwide is $2.54. That price is down two cents from a week ago, but up 40 cents from a year ago.

However, AAA Spokeswoman Marilyn Buskohl said gas prices are not expected to keep many drivers off the road this Thanksgiving.

“Nearly 46 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles away from their home by car this holiday. Many will be thankful to see gas prices trending cheaper in cities across the country,” Buskohl said in a press release. “Since 2014, the national gas price average has dropped one to five cents heading into the Thanksgiving week.”

South Dakota's average is $2.54 a gallon, which is unchanged from last week, but up 38 cents from a year ago.
