Gov. Kristi Noem to discuss her main policies during State of the State

PIERRE, S.D. (KSFY) - Governor Kristi Noem's first day begins Jan. 8th, as she'll give her first State of the State Address to the legislators out in Pierre.

Noem delivers her inauguration speech

Governor Noem is focusing on policies that she has promised during her time on the campaign trail, including no tax increases.

Governor Kristi Noem says she wants to continue the growth in our state. She thanked former Governor Daugaard for the tremendous shape our state is in during her speech on Saturday.

But, she adds that doesn't mean policies can't be improved.

Governor Noem will be focusing on the next generation during her time as governor. She hopes to put policies and legislation in place that will benefit the children of South Dakota.

Her primary focus right now is the state's budget and continuing to keep taxes low.

"We're going to working and finalizing a budget that balances without raising taxes," she said. "So, that's the number one responsibility. Beyond that, we'll be working on policy initiatives that I've been talking about for the last year and a half. And making sure that we have legislation ready to go."

Governor Noem's State of the State Speech is set to begin at 1 PM Jan. 8th.
