Great Bear Ski Valley closed Thursday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Great Bear Ski Valley is closed for skiing and tubing Thursday.

The closure is due to high winds and wind chills forecasted by the National Weather Service.

The park will reopen at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Conditions are looking warmer and sunnier for the weekend. Great Bear has a number of events planned for the weekend.

Friday is all about 5th graders. The 5th Grade Friday program gives 5th graders a chance to purchase a lift ticket, rental equipment and a group lesson for only $5. The program runs every Friday from 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Saturday evening is another session of Lazer Tubing! Tickets are limited. The previous two sessions of Lazer Tubing this year have been sold out events.

On Sunday, Great Bear Ski Valley is hosting the inaugural Sun N Fun Ride for Rails.

Local skiers and snowboarders will show off their skills in the Terrain Park, throwing the best tricks in the hopes of claiming their share of the $3,500 in prizes provided by Sun N Fun Specialty Sports.

The event is a fundraiser to raise money for a new rail. The competition will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
