Great Outdoor Store encourages people to take on an adventure through new classes

DOWNTOWN SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Great Outdoor Store will start offering free classes as a way to educate people on different topics when it comes to the outdoors. Neil Jones is an assistant manager at the Great Outdoor Store in Downtown Sioux Falls, and he will teach the first free class being offered. It's all about layering clothes when it comes to going on an adventure outside. The class will be Saturday at 10:30 AM at the store on East 10th Street in Downtown Sioux Falls.

Jones has taken quite a few people on various adventures outside and used to help plan and guide trips for the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He said the layering class will focus on taking a look at going outside during the winter and how to stay warm and comfortable. He will go over what brands work in certain climates and what the best option will be to wear in certain scenarios.

Nancy Kirstein is also an assistant manager at the Great Outdoor Store. She said the reason the staff wanted to start offering these free educational classes is because they noticed there was a need for it in the community.

Another free class that will be offered is a "how-to" class on planning a trip to Europe. Emily Larson just got back from a 3 1/2 month backpacking trip through Europe, and she said the experience was incredible because there were so many different things her and her best friend were able to do. She said in her class, she will teach people to plan ahead for a trip like that. She will also give information on what she learned to do and not to do while on the trip. That class will be held at the store on Wednesday, January 24 at 6:00 PM.
