HARRISBURG, S.D. (KSFY) - The Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation announced a new partnership with the Harrisburg School District on Wednesday.
The foundation will provide $250,000 to build the Home Builders Academy on the Harrisburg High School campus.
There, students will learn the basic skills to home building.
"This is going to give our high school students an opportunity to really dive in to what a career in construction's going to look like and give them a full picture of the industry, rather than just building houses," Travis Lape with the Harrisburg School District said. "Once the house gets framed and this Home Builders Academy and goes off to the job site, now we start to dig into what trades come in and really put the house together, and the students are going to have an opportunity to see it from start to finish and really see what trade are they really interested in going into."
Industry leaders will also be coming into the classroom to provide their expertise.
