Honoring fallen law enforcement in Washington D.C.

Thousands of people filled the lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the National Peace Officers' Memorial Wednesday to honor the 158 law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in 2018 and the 59 officers who died from illnesses related to the 9/11 attacks.

"They embodied our highest ideals and greatest aspirations," said President Donal Trump. "They were the very best of us. There was nobody close. Today we engrave their names into the eternal roll call of American heroes."

The president expressed his gratitude and support for all law enforcement officers.

The White House will be lit in blue Wednesday night in appreciation of the fallen officers.
