Police say a teenager is in the hospital and a dog is dead after shots were fired at a home in central Sioux Falls Tuesday night.
Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said the incident happened around 9:40 p.m. in the 800 block of N. Dakota Avenue.
Five people drove to the home. Four of them went inside to allegedly collect a debt. An altercation ensued and shots were fired, possibly inside and outside the home.
The five people drove away.
An officer outside the Law Enforcement Center actually heard the shots and saw the vehicle leaving Dakota Avenue. Other officers stopped their vehicle near 14th Street and Main Avenue.
No one has been arrested related to the shooting, but officers did arrest two men on other charges.
Police arrested 18-year-old Zachary Matthew Lee Hampton of Sioux Falls for fleeing police, obstruction and carrying a concealed pistol without a permit.
Clemens said investigators do not believe at this time that Hampton's gun was used in the shooting.
They also arrested 18-year-old Reality Vincent Shoulderblade of Sioux Falls for fleeing police, obstruction, and entering or remaining in a building. He allegedly pushed his way into the home where the incident happened.
Clemens said a bullet from the shooting hit a 17-year-old boy from Sioux Falls in the shin. He is in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The homeowner's dog was also shot. It was taken to a vet where it later died.
Police are looking for the homeowner for questioning and know who he is. Clemens said the suspects so far have been giving police varying stories.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE, 3:30 a.m.
Authorities say an altercation led to shots being fired in a central Sioux Falls neighborhood.
According to Sgt. Tarah Walton, gunshots were heard coming from the 800 block of N. Dakota Avenue around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say an altercation between people in that area led to shots being fired from a handgun.
Police have not confirmed any other details at this point. A large police presence responded to the area of 14th Street and Main Avenue around the same as the reported shooting; police have not confirmed whether they were connected.
Authorities are investigating incidents at two separate locations in downtown Sioux Falls.

A house on N. Dakota Ave. between 1st and 2nd street was taped off with police tape. An officer at that scene tells KSFY News they do not believe there is a danger to the public.
Officers appeared to be searching an alley near 14th and Main.
