Man wanted on warrants in custody following pursuit in Minnehaha County

MINNEHAHA COUNTY, S.D. (KSFY) - Police say a man wanted on outstanding felony warrants is now in custody after a vehicle pursuit in Minnehaha County.

According to Sgt. Jerry Winter, the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to 257th Street and 483rd Avenue around 9:15 a.m. Friday for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was disabled by OnStar, but the suspect was able to steal another vehicle from a nearby farm, Winter said. That is when the pursuit began.

Thirty-seven-year-old Steven Schumacher was arrested near 254th Street and 483rd Avenue for his outstanding warrants and other charges stemming from the incident Friday.

Schumacher's warrants were out of Minnehaha and Lincoln counties.

No one was injured in the pursuit, but a patrol car received extensive damage.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol and the Brandon Police Department assisted in the incident.
