(SIOUX FALLS)- On Sunday, a large community menorah lighting was held at Augustana University in Sioux Falls.
Members of the Habad Jewish Center of South Dakota joined with community leaders to light a 6-foot menora.
Senator John Thune, congresswoman Kristi Noem and mayor Mike Huether were all at the event.
South Dakota Rabbi Mendel Alperowitz says this public ceremony is a celebration of cultural tolerance, diversity and the message of Hanukkah.
"This is extremely special to have this in Sioux Falls, and just the fact that we can bring so many people together all for the purpose of adding goodness and kindness is very special to us" Alperowitz Said.
This is the largest community menorah lighting ever held in Sioux Falls. The public event also included some festive Hanukkah treats and children's activities.
