MINNEHAHA COUNTY, S.D. - Water rescues and evacuations were happening all over Sioux Falls Thursday. There were 10 evacuation incidents and 14 rescues in moving water.
This flooding event has brought all hands on deck. That includes bringing in volunteers from Minnehaha County Emergency Management.
Rescue team volunteers evacuated people from a mobile home park along West 12th Street Thursday morning since it was technically in the county.
"You're watching the water. You're watching how swiftly it's moving," Doug Blomker said, who is the assistant director of Minnehaha County Emergency Management. "We were seeing large pieces of ice floating across the road, down closer to the bridge, branches and stuff too; trash and items from people's yards and garages started floating around across the road."
He said since so many events were happening all over the city, resources can get spread thin quickly. So these volunteers can really help supplement city agencies.
His department is the only one that has volunteer divers. They were called to Dunham Park when someone called in that a man had fell in the water. It turned out to just be someone swimming though.
There are more than 100 volunteers that work out of his office. If you would like to volunteer, you can call 605-367-4290.
