SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The annual NAMI Walk is Saturday at Sertoma Park.
The South Dakota chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is celebrating its 16th anniversary of the event in South Dakota. The theme will be “Not all Heroes Wear Capes.”
The organization said its goal is to raise $80,000 for education and support programs for the more than 150,000 South Dakotans who are affected by mental illness.
“NAMI South Dakota and its nine community affiliates are dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by mental illness through education, advocacy, and support,” said Wendy Giebink, executive director of the nonprofit organization. “One in five adults will be affected by mental illness in a given year. Our goal is to make it acceptable for people to seek treatment, which is very effective.”
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K walk will begin at 9:30 a.m.
