New Harrisburg grocery store holds ribbon cutting ceremony

HARRISBURG, S.D. (KSFY) - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday morning at the new Fareway grocery store in Harrisburg.

The Harrisburg community has been waiting in anticipation for the new store. It has been decades since the town has had a grocery store, and city officials said a growing population made the opening of this store a possibility.

"It's really important to provide for a population center," Harrisburg Economic Development President Adrienne McKeown said. "They need a place they can go within a couple minutes to grab those essentials."

City officials said the store will provide more jobs and increase the sales tax revenue for the Harrisburg community.

Fareway is located at 300 Willow Street West.
