No one injured after basement fire at Sioux Falls home

Sioux Falls, SD (KSFY) No one was injured after an afternoon fire at a home in northwest Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue were called to 3312 W. Mulberry Street for the report of flames and smoke coming from the basement around 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

Everyone was able to make it out of the home safely. Firefighters say the only person home when the fire started was asleep when the smoke alarms went off. He was not sure if his adult grandchild was home when the fire started, so firefighters did search the basement. No one else was inside.

Firefighters were able to put out the flames in about five minutes. They say the basement did suffer heavy fire damage and the entire house sustained heavy smoke damage.

Fire investigators are still searching for a cause of the fire, but say it did start in a basement bedroom.
