Polar plunges start February 23 across South Dakota for Special Olympics

VERMILLION, S.D. - Entertainment expert, Mitchell Olson, will be taking the plunge for Special Olympics on February 23rd. He usually emcees the event every year in Vermillion and said he makes an excuse not to jump in. But this year, he decided if he raises $5,000 from his 5,000 Facebook friends, then he will take the plunge.

It's also a special year because the Special Olympics will start in his hometown of Vermillion, which is where the games started originally.

All of the funds raised at the polar plunge will go back to supporting Special Olympics South Dakota. There are nine plunges planned across the state starting on February 23 in Vermillion. It will kick off at 3:00 PM and be held in Downtown Vermillion.

Other plunges will be in Watertown, Mitchell, Brookings, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, and Spearfish through April 13th. You can find which polar plunge is closest to you here.
