Police: Man arrested after leading police on short chase with stolen car

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - One man is behind bars after Sioux Falls police say he led officers on a short chase in a stolen car before crashing.

Police responded to a report of shots being fired at an apartment complex near Cleveland Ave. and 6th St. around 4:40 a.m. Thursday.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens says a car was stolen. Shortly afterwards, police received another report of shots fired near Highland Ave., a few blocks west.

Police eventually spotted the car and attempted to pull it over. Clemens said a roughly 30-second chase ensued, and the car ended up crashing into a power line pole near Whittier Park.

Police found the suspect hiding behind a nearby shed.

Clemens said the 18-year-old suspect's name will not be released until he is officially charged.

Investigators are still working to determine if the stolen car and ensuing chase is connected to the reports of shots fired.
