Police: Man who died in Iowa house fire was stabbed, grandson arrested

ROCK VALLEY, Iowa (KSFY) - Authorities say the man whose body they found following a Rock Valley, Iowa house fire was stabbed prior to the fire, and the victim's grandson has allegedly admitted to the crime.

The fire happened in the early morning hours of October 29. First responders found a deceased man inside the home. He has been identified as 84-year-old Luis Luevanos.

On Friday, the Rock Valley Police Department issued a press release stating that Luevanos received several stab wounds to the body prior to the fire.

Investigators learned the victim's grandson, 19-year-old Santos Rodriguez Jr., also lived in the home, and had traveled to Utah following the fire.

DCI agents traveled to Utah to interview Rodriguez. Police say he admitted to stabbing his grandfather and intentionally setting the fire afterwards.

Rodriguez was arrested on November 8 and charged with first degree murder and arson. He is currently awaiting extradition to South Dakota.
