UPDATE: Police looking for 4th suspect in assault, stolen car investigation

Sioux Falls police say they are looking for a fourth suspect in an aggravated assault and stolen vehicle investigation.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said the incident happened Tuesday afternoon when the victim and three other people drove from a home to a gas station where they picked up a fourth person.

The four suspects then wanted to go to the Sanford Fieldhouse in the northwest part of town. The 26-year-old victim drove to the fieldhouse where the suspects allegedly jumped him while still in the driver's seat.

Clemens said the suspects beat the man and even broke an ice scraper over the top of his head.

The victim was able to escape the car, leaving his wallet behind.

One suspect then got into the driver's seat and took off, nearly hitting the man. He called police on his cell phone and reported the assault and the stolen vehicle.

An officer spotted the 2004 Saturn VUE near 11th Street and Phillips Avenue and tried to stop it. Clemens said the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, and the officer chose not to pursue it.

The vehicle struck a parked car near 8th Street and Nesmith Avenue. The suspects abandoned the vehicle nearby.

Officers caught three of the four suspects -- 32-year-old Darcy Takes The Knife, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy -- and arrested them on first degree robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a stolen vehicle, grand theft and fleeing police.

The fourth suspect -- another 16-year-old boy -- got away, but officers know who he is.

The victim, who is from Madison, was taken to a hospital for his injuries. He knew the woman and one of the 16-year-old boys.

The suspects are from Sioux Falls.

Police say they have arrested a woman and detained two juveniles as part of a stolen car investigation.

Sgt. Tom Ward said police were called to the northwest part of town around 12 p.m. Tuesday for a man who was assaulted before his car was stolen.

Officers located the car downtown and a short foot pursuit followed.

They arrested 32-year-old Darcy Takes The Knife of Sioux Falls and detained two juveniles.

Crews transported the victim to a hospital for evaluation. His condition is unknown at this time.

Ward said it appears the suspects and the victim knew each other before the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to be released at a later time.
