UPDATE: Suspect arrested in deadly Watertown shooting

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KSFY) - UPDATE: A man is behind bars after a deadly early-morning shooting at a Watertown residence.

According to Sgt. Troy VanDusen, 30-year-old Donald Vincent Herron of Watertown was arrested on first degree manslaughter and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Police have also identified the victim as 30-year-old Seth James Murray of Watertown.

Authorities received a report of a shooting around 3:30 a.m. Friday morning. VanDusen said a 30-year-old man called to tell police his friend had been shot.

When officers arrived, the found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say Herron accidentally shot Murray. VanDusen said investigators believe alcohol played a role in the incident.

Herron is being held at the Codington County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Police say he has been cooperating with investigators.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.

Authorities are investigating after a man was fatally shot at a Watertown residence.

Police received the report of a shooting at the 600 block of 1st Avenue NW around 3:30 a.m. Friday. A man called police saying his friend had been shot.

Officers met with the caller outside the residence. When they entered the building, they found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. Sgt. Troy VanDusen said The victim died from his injuries.

Detectives from the Watertown Police Department along with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation are still at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released. No other details about the shooting have been released at this point.
