SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Police say they responded to nearly 40 accidents during the Monday morning commute due to icy road conditions.
Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said officers responded to 39 accidents between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Twenty of those crashes happened just between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., Clemens said.
Freezing rain overnight covered roads with a layer of ice, causing extremely slippery conditions.
Many of the crashes happened on side streets that were untreated or had less traffic, Clemens said.
No serious injuries were reported during that time frame.
