Minnehaha County Emergency Management has announced linemen working to restore power to homes will cease work at 8 p.m. tonight.
The announcement was posted to the county's Facebook page. Officials said if residents don't have power by 8 p.m. they will likely have to wait until Friday, at the soonest, until power is restored.
Officials are encouraging residents without power to contact family or friends to make arrangements for tonight or until electricity is back on.
Several communities in Minnehaha County have opened shelters, including Hartford and Humboldt. Residents without power in these communities can take shelter at both towns' fire stations.
