REACH holds fundraiser to learn about historical murder cases

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The podcast called My Favorite Murder started in 2016 by hosts Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. Kilgariff is a comedian and television writer and Hardstark is a writer and host for the Cooking Channel. The two women host the true crime comedy podcast where they discuss old murder cases from all over the world while giving commentary. It is an explicit podcast. The hosts believe the murder cases are a historical thing for people to learn. Since it started in 2016, the two have a fan base called "murderinos."

Some of those fans are in Sioux Falls and REACH literacy is holding an event Friday at the brand new bookstore for the fans. The executive director, Paige Carda, is hosting the event for people to get together and listen to a detective from the Sioux Falls Police Department talk about two of his most memorable murder cases. The detective is Jon Carda and he has been with the police department for 27 years, 7 of those with the Crimes Against Persons Unit.

The event will be held from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday at the new bookstore. It costs $5 to attend. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. The new bookstore is located on West 41st Street at the Western Mall on the south side next to Scheels.

This event will help provide support for the programs at REACH. The center gives adults the opportunity to learn to read and write through group and individual tutoring. The mission is to teach adults to read and write to empower them to achieve their full potential in life.
