SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - A boxer from Florida is stopping in all 50 states this year to raise awareness about Parkinson's Disease, and Monday he made a stop in South Dakota.
For several years, Jon Pawelkop has been touring the country to raise funds in the fight against Parkinson's Disease and to help people fight back by getting active.
Various studies show that rigorous exercise can slow the progression of the disease.
Pawelkop was diagnosed with Parkinson's three years ago, and he has been fighting ever since.
"Luckily, I was always athletic in my life, so I think that prolonged keeping Parkinson's away, but since I got my diagnosis I've kicked it up a high gear because I know that working hard is going to keep this away," he said.
During the tour, he is reaching out to gym owners, physical trainers and volunteers to help the more than 60,000 people diagnosed with the disease every year by starting a class.
