SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Sometimes things at home get tough, and kids need a little extra care. A local program with the goal to keep families together is here to help. Safe Families for Children launched in Sioux Falls five years ago.
"Basically what we do is surround families in crisis with hope and love," Angel Metzger said. Metzger is the Ministry Lead for Safe Families for Children.
The Ransom Church in Sioux Falls along with Bethany Christian Services helps coordinate loving volunteer host families with children while parents get the care they need.
"The reason I chose Safe Families was because I knew I needed some sort of treatment for my addiction," mother Angela Graham said.
Angela's daughter was placed with Rob and Erin Vande Lune.
"To put my daughter with a family was very hard for me, but it was something that needed to be done," Graham said.
"Being that stabilizing rudder in a season where waters are choppy for a family, is our hope," host Rob said.
It's only for a short period of time, but being away for any period can be tough.
"For the kiddo to be away from mom that feels long, so do we have the resources and giftings to reach that kiddo's needs for that time, that's what we ask ourselves," host Erin said.
It's a movement of compassion, happening right here in the Sioux Falls community.
"A lot of families that need help know the resources, but they don't have the support and the unconditional love. If we can just do things a little bit differently, still use those resources, but come along side them, we can see the impact in years to come," Metzger said.
