Alex Maas is our KSFY Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week for November 18th. He's a senior at Dakota Christian School in Douglas County.
Alex has always enjoyed school, he told KSFY, especially math, history and science classes.
"Certain classes has always come easy for me. Math, I don't have to try terrible hard. English if I sit back like i Do in math will kick my butt every time," Dakota Christian School Senior Alex Maas said.
He admits he's lucked out with great teachers.
"They're nice to you yet they challenge you on every level. They don't let you slack off and goof around because 'you guys are our friends, we don't need to push you', they probably push is more than a big school because they know us so well and know we can handle it," Maas said.
One of his teachers, Donna Veurink, said they never have to worry about students like Alex.
"He's a strong student, works very hard to get his grades. He has a laid back, pleasant personality and it is easy to work with. Wants to do well and works hard to achieve that," Veurink said. "His parents have had children at Dakota Christian for years. He is expected, encouraged to achieve and do well at school and is supported in his efforts by his family."
Next year, his plans include attending South Dakota State University to start working towards a degree in Accounting.
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Alex receives a $100 scholarship from Douglas Electric Cooperative which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
