ABERDEEN, S.D. (KSFY) - The Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Audrey Cihak, a senior at Aberdeen Central High School.
She has a 4.0 GPA
Over the last four years, Audrey has been active in a lot of activities with no signs of slowing down.
For her, a love for learning and motivation to work hard started at home.
"They've always taught me to work hard and stressed the importance of education, and that it's the way to a better life, and I should try my best in everything I do," Cihak said.
Aside from her dual-credit college courses, Audrey enjoys more language arts and history and less math and science.
"Right now I'm taking AP Calc, and that's my most challenging class right now," she said.
Audrey's recognition comes as no surprise to Aberdeen Central teachers -- one of them calling her a remarkable student and an integral part of class.
"She's well-known as a girl who is kind, intelligent, put together," language arts teacher Terra McQuillen said. "She participates in a wonderful way that inspires others. She notices everything. She analyzes and picks up on tiny details and brings those out so others can see them as well."
McQuillen said Audrey has always challenged herself.
"She takes difficult classes and handles the stress with grace," McQuillen said. "She's got a huge course load and extracurriculars but remains balanced, so she succeeds through that balance."
Cihak is not sure where she will be this time next year, but she will study economics and international business.
She will miss Central High, especially the teachers and advisers.
"When you go off to college, you're a lot more independent and expected to hold yourself together, but here we have a really good support system and people to help you find your way," Cihak said.
For being named the Scholar of the Week, Audrey receives a $100 scholarship from Northern Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
