Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Codi Schmidt, a senior at De Smet High School with a 4.22 grade point average. She plays Basketball and runs Cross Country. She's also active in the National Honor Society and the Student Council and is a member of her school's academic Honor Roll.
Codi Schmidt credits her success in school to having the support of others. "I've had a lot of people in my life who inspire me all the time."
One of those people is her mom. Codi's English teacher, Kathy Sanderson, has been close with both of them. "Her mom is a teacher at school so actually I got to hold Codi right after she was born."
And while Codi credits her support network for her success, Sanderson says Codi rightly deserves some of the credit as well. "Codi leads by example. She doesn't expect any more of other people than she does of herself. She's kind. She's compassionate."
"I really like helping people and all the support from my classmates and things that drives me to be a leader." Codi says she has always been naturally curious....which has helped her in every class....as Kathy Sanderson can attest. "She constantly asks questions, wants to dig deeper into information, wants to learn more and those things will set her apart from an average student."
And as for Codi, she will continue to put that curious nature to good use. "After graduating I plan to attend SDSU and major in pre-med and then hopefully after that get into medical school."
For being named a Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, Codi receives a $100 scholarship from Kingsbury Electric Cooperative which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
