Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Janae Kolden, a senior at Clark High School. She has a 3.95 grade point average. Janae plays Basketball and Volleyball and runs Track.
She also is a member of the Future Farmers of America as well as Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and the National Honor Society.
Janae Kolden says from an early age she got the message that when it came to doing work at school, you worked as hard as you could and you didn't give up. "My family has inspired me and pushed me so much and then just all the teachers here. They just want you to succeed in everything that you do and they just really push you to do your best."
One of those teachers was Luanne Warren who taught Janae piano when she was a little girl. She has been there for every step of Janae's journey through school. "I was her middle school teacher all the way through middle school and now I've had the privilege of watching her grow into this fine young lady as a high school leader."
Warren tells us that Janae Kolden is a fantastic role model for all students at Clark. One example of that is the work Janae has been doing not only to complete her high school work but to also complete college coursework she has been doing to get ahead. "She is going to be graduating from Clark as a sophomore in college so she's a go getter. She goes over and beyond what needs to be done as a student."
Yes. You heard that right. Janae has completely so many college level credits that when she graduates high school in may she will already be a sophomore in college. "As a senior I will have a total of 27 credits done going into college and that's just something I'm really proud of that I've done because it's just brought a lot of challenges for me and its just a huge load off of my shoulders."
And while Janae doesn't yet know where she wants to go to college she does know what she wants to study when she gets there. "I know I want to do some business like health administration. I feel like health is such a demanding field and I feel like it always will be. so that's why I want to be involved with it."
For being named our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, Janae receives a $100 scholarship from Codington-Clark Electric Cooperative which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
