Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Jarret Haven, a senior at Northwestern Area School District with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Jarret runs Cross Country and Track and plays Basketball. He's also active with the Future Farmers of America and the National Honor Society and has also served as student body president.
Jarret Haven tells us he is definitely honored to have made the grade and be named a scholar of the week. "This is an awesome experience. I've seen it on TV and I've heard about it and now that I'm receiving it it's a really cool thing for me to be a part of this."
Jarret says the reason he works so hard in being the best he can be at school is because he knows that by doing well he is making a real investment in himself; both right now and in the future. "School is how I'm investing in myself. So I try to give everything I have at school to make myself the best version of myself that I can be."
"Jarret's a great influence around here with our young kids both academically and athletically. He has done a lot for us here at Northwestern." Rich Osborn is the high school principal at Northwestern Area and he says Jarret is a master when it comes to time management and that Jarret is the type of leader who does not call attention to himself....rather he is a quiet leader....letting his example do the talking for him. "Having that type of leader around the school...they don't come by very often and so that leadership will be missed."
It's not a surprise that Jarret already has a planned locked into place for what he will be doing in the fall. "I'm planning to go to North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton and get a degree in Farm and Ranch Management."
For being named our scholar of the week, Jarret receives a $100 scholarship from Northern Electric Cooperative which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
